Default What the hell was all that about?

Last night I had the strangest dream...

But seriously, folks, it was full of the most incredible(!) imagery, so before I go haring off after what it showed me, I want to get a sanity check on this! Feel free to wade in with any thoughts or opinions.

It was a beautiful winter's night. The clouds were rolling away and the stars were shining overhead, the air was crisp and bright and it was snowing softly as I walked along this road.

I heard a Native American song being sung by a woman's voice. I looked towards the sound and saw that it was coming from a tipi big enough to hold a Pink Floyd concert in.

Where the poles would normally project out the top of the tipi, there were iron girders of the gridwork kind, like you might see coming out the top of a circus tent, all lit up with spotlights, and I could hear there was a rock concert going on in there. The music sounded a bit like Eric Clapton, and a bit like The Coors, with this Native American woman's voice singing, and the sound of 25,000 cheering extras: it was a real blast.

So I walked along the road past the show and came to a crossroads, where the road continued out across the fields. Standing, no, leaning against the fence on the other side of the road was a man.

He was dressed lilke a voodoo rock star. I kid you not. Old faded black top hat, indian headband, long wavy auburn hair with ribbons and feathers and things curling out it, leather jacket, boots, leaning with an insouciant air against the fence.

I thought of Stride Wide Man, and I thought of Hotaloga Andrews, and I thought of Slash from Guns & Roses, and I thought of Big Jeffy from Sesame street, but most of all I thought: "He looks a bit like me"

So I'm about halfway across the road when down flutters a bird, lands in the snow and hops over to me. It's a silver crow. Like, it's a real live crow, but it's feathers are made of silver. It caws at me like it wants me to pick it up, so I kneel down and make a perch for it out of two fingers. The bird hops on to my hand, and I pick it up - it's feathers are soft and fluffy, almost a snow-grey in colour, but it's quite heavy. As I suppose it would, having feathers made out of metal and all...

It settles down in the crook of my arm to get warm, and together we walk down the road (turned left at the crossroads) and around the corner, and then I woke up.

It was a very vivid dream, with colours and sounds and smells, so it's probably important, but I'm blowed if I know what it means...

Hi and welcome!

Wow! It sounds like a big dream to me too. Carl Jung believed that dreams that contain vivid imagery to the senses transcend those of normal everday experiences. This dream smacks of things spiritual and global. Consider your emotions during the dream and what the characters in it represent and may have been trying to convey to you.

Do you study native American culture and history? Are you familiar with it?

Default Native American dream aspects

I know something of NA cultures and spirituality, enough to get a real "wha-ha?!" (if you know what I mean) from this dream.

I know a bit about NA history. Wounded knee, Custer the barbarian, Trail of Tears, etc etc etc - the same sad story shared by indegenous peoples everywhere the Europeans went. Ask the Australians or the Africans about that one.

I wondered if it would be possible to identify the language that the woman was singing in, or the type of tipi would give a clue, maybe, which might help identify exactly who that man was, and what the silver crow is telling me.
