Before consulting the remedies it is important that you have a look at the Modalities and the list of Things to Do, and Things Not to Do. Modalities Modalities are circumstances that worsen or lessen the symptoms of the patient; they are a useful guide to choosing the right homeopathic remedy. The main types of modality are: Physical modalities: include how movement affects the patient, position of the body, touch, rest, exertion, noise and smells. Temperature: heat, warmth, cold, wind, damp, and the season may affect the symptoms. Time: the time of day that the symptoms are more noticeable; may even change hourly. Diet: different foods, drinks, stimulant or alcohol may affect the symptoms. Localised modalities: symptoms may be worse on the left side of the body. Left-handed people may feel symptoms differently to right-handed people. THINGS TO DO Keep your mouth free from food and drink for twenty minutes on either side of taking remedies. Use homeopathic toothpaste as it will be free from elements that mat contaminate or counteract the homeopathic remedy. Keep tablets out of reach of children and pets. Store remedies away from strong-smelling oils and scents. Store remedies in a dark place.
Don’t just swallow tablets; they should be sucked until they dissolve. Eat mints or menthol cough lozenges etc, including mint flavour toothpastes as they will interfere with the homeopathic remedy. Don’t use the following essential oils: camphor, eucalyptus, menthol, peppermint or rosemary. Do not touch tablets with your skin, tap them into the lid then into your mouth as the sweat from your hands with interfere with the mixture, absorbing it from the tablet. Do not apply any kind of cologne or perfume for half an hour either side of treatment.
THE REMEDIES 1. ACONITE
Aconite is derived from Monkshood, a toxic plant that used to be used to treat infections and to poison arrow tips. Treatment Use Aconite is useful when any of the following are indicated: Mental and Emotional aspects Anxiety and great fear – Feelings of doom and gloom, especially when accompanied by illness – A strong fear of death, the dark and ghosts – Agoraphobia and panic – Any form of shock- Worry and stress about the future – Nightmares – Panic attacks – Vivid imagination – Unhappiness – Emotional and physical tension which drains energy from body and mind. Physical aspects Headaches with hot and heavy sensation – Problems with sleep – Pressure and tightness around the chest area – Gritty and sore eyes – Ear, nose and throat soreness – Colds, coughs and influenza – Restlessness – Palpitations – Twitching of the eye – shaking and fever caused by sunburn. 2. APIS MEL.
Apis Mel. Is derived from the honeybee Treatment Use Apis Mel. is useful when any of the following are indicated: Mental and Emotional aspects Bad memory – Jealousy – Being hard to please – Tearfulness – Apathy – Constantly complaining – Fear of death. Physical aspects Headaches with stabbing and stinging pain – Clumsiness – Fever with lack of thirst and sensitive skin – Itchy, stinging skin – Stinging eyes – Arthritis when burning sensation – Cystitis and other urinary ailments that cause burning – Insect bites and stings – constant spasmodic coughing. Modalities Better: cool

Argent. Nit. Is derived from silver nitrate which is poisonous in large amounts. It has being used to cauterise wounds because of it’s caustic nature. Treatment Use Argent. Nit. is useful when any of the following are indicated: Mental and Emotional aspects Fearfulness – Apprehension – Overactive imagination – Stage-fright – Phobias, especially claustrophobia, arachnophobia and fear of insects – Fear of taking important tests – Feeling stressed and in a hurry. Physical aspects Headaches brought on by extreme concentration – Weakness and trembling in bones and limbs – Tired, aching eyes – Irritable bowel syndrome – Diarrhoea caused by anxiety and tension – Nightmares – Sore muscles caused by constant body tension - Flatulence – Palpitations. 4. ARNICA
Arnica is derived from the herb Arnica Montana (also known as Leopard’s Bane, Wolf’s Bane and Mountain Arnica), used since the 16th century for bruises, muscular aches and pain, and rheumatism. Treatment Use Arnica is useful when any of the following are indicated: Mental and Emotional aspects Irritability – Nervousness and over sensitivity - Agoraphobia – Shock – Bereavement – Short attention span – Forgetfulness and indifference. Physical aspects Labour pains – Sore muscles – Swelling – Healing after surgery – Back and joint pain – Sprains – Black eyes – Falls – Hot, sensitive headache – Tired eyes – Nosebleeds – Sore chest muscles after a cough – Concussion – Over-exertion – Dizziness. 5. ARSEN. ALB.
Arsen . Alb. is derived from arsenic, which is a metallic poison. Treatment Use Arsen. 7. BELLADONNA
Belladonna is derived from the deadly nightshade plant, popular during the middle-ages for magical uses. Treatment Use Belladonna is useful when any of the following are indicated: Mental and Emotional aspects Sudden anger – Feelings of guilt – Stress – Depression triggered by agitation – Sudden temper tantrums and red face. 8. BRYONIA
Bryonia is derived roots of dried hops grown in southern and central Europe, used by the Romans to treat coughs and wounds. Treatment Use Bryonia is useful when any of the following are indicated: Mental and Emotional aspects Poor memory – Fear of death – Anger – Irritability and restlessness – Prefers to be left alone when unwell. Calc. Carb. is derived from calcium carbonate in oyster shells. Treatment Use Calc. Carb. is useful when any of the following are indicated: Mental and Emotional aspects Fear of the dark, death, insanity and impending doom – Fear of a stroke in old age – Palpitations caused by anxiety – Depression with tiredness – Poor memory – Tiredness with slowness of thought – Obsession with problems – Anxiety when criticized – Hypochondria – Low spirits – Laziness – Fear of disease. Cantharis is derived from a bright green beetle known as the Spanish fly, known for poisonous and irritating properties. Treatment Use Cantharis is useful when any of the following are indicated: Mental and Emotional aspects Addiction to sex – Irritability leading to anger and violence – Screaming with rage – Severe anxiety. Carbo Veg. is derived from vegetable charcoal made from beech, poplar, and birch wood. Has been used to relieve flatulence.
